Malaysia's rugged terrain, dense rain forests and numerous mountainous regions make it an irresistible destination for four wheel drive expedition enthusiasts. With 58 per cent of the country still under jungle cover, Malaysia's terrain bring out the best challenge for both man and machine in a test of skill under changing conditions.
The East Coast offers the best terrains in Peninsular Malaysia and the states of Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu remain the off road driving enthusiasts' all time favourites. Tasik Chini and Cameron Highlands in Pahang, Gua Musang in Kelantan, Endau Rompin in Johor, Kinabalu National Park in Sabah, and Bintulu in Sarawak also offer extreme challenges.
Malaysia hosts three major international off road events, which are Trans Borneo International Rally, the National Challenge and the Rainforest International Challenge of Malaysia.
Nevertheless, Four Wheel Drive Expedition is not only for seasoned drivers. Casual or recreational participants can experience the adrenalin rush as a number of companies offer safe, family-type packages designed to suit the individual's time constraints and preferred challenge level.
Although off road driving is a year-round activity, the dry season from March to October makes for firmer terrain and less mud while November to February is the monsoon season, which is more suited for experienced drivers. |
